Purpose: The aim of this study was a comparative study of social accountability patterns in universities

Method: The research method was qualitatively comparative using thematic content analysis approach. The statistical population of the study includes all models of accountability and social accountability in the university that have been selected by purposive sampling. Documentary method was used to collect data and the validity of documents was assessed through internal and external evaluation.

Findings: The findings show that in most of the existing models, researchers consider dimensions such as the impact of environmental conditions, including political, cultural and economic, as well as the existence of stakeholders. Also, the main difference between the models is the impact of university globalization and The provision and allocation of university funding was found to affect academic independence.

Conclusion: In order to implement social accountability in universities and higher education centers, according to the research findings, Iranian university decision makers are advised to choose a model for implementing university social accountability in which university inputs according to expectations. And re-engineer and re-engineer stakeholder feedback. In the meantime, the environmental conditions and potential and the local context in which the university is located should also be considered.
